Support our Back to School Rally and Open House at Hubs!
Education is a key part of our work at Brilliant Detroit. Academic support is part of setting kids up for success, as is making sure they have the right tools and resources. With this in mind, Brilliant Detroit is hosting Back to School backpack giveaways at our hubs! We would love your support in hosting a donation drive, help distribute school supply-stuffed backpacks at one of our hubs and getting kids excited to go back to school.
Some of our sites will be hosting larger open house-style events while others will be more focused on giving out school supplies exclusively. Volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up after the event and staff stations with giveaways and family fun activities.
Please see the list of locations and the respective dates and times of their Back to School events below. Note that each shift is assigned to a specific hub and reflects the time that you should arrive at the hub.

Brilliant McDougall Hunt Back to School Extravaganza - Friday, August 23 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. (placed on 2-3 hours shifts based on need)
Brilliant Outer Drive/Hayes Back to School - Friday, August 23 from noon - 4 p.m. (placed on 2 hours shifts based on need)
Brilliant Cody Rouge Open House/Back to School Bash - Friday, August 23 from 3-8 p.m. (placed on 2-hour shifts based on need) Volunteers Needed: 7
Brilliant Fitzgerald Back to School Rally - Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (placed on 2-3 hour shifts based on need) Volunteers Needed: 8 - meet at Brilliant Fitzgerald to grab the bookbags, tables, chairs and tents. They will need to be able to lift 50 pounds.

Brilliant Russell Woods Back to School Luau - Saturday, September 14 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. (placed on 2-3 hour shifts based on need) Volunteers Needed: 8
Brilliant Grixdale Farms Open House - Saturday, September 21 from noon - 4:30 p.m. (placed on 2 hours shifts based on need) Volunteers Needed: 6

• 1 Package of crayons (24 pack preferred) • 1 Package of #2 pencils (12 pack preferred) • 1 Package of erasers (2-4 pack of large pink erasers or several pencil top erasers) • 1 Package of washable markers (8-12 pack preferred) • 1 Package of colored pencils (12 pack preferred) • 1 Package of pens (10-12 pack preferred) • 1 Package of wide-ruled Lined paper • 1 Package of multi-colored construction paper • 2-3 Notebooks with wide-ruled lined paper • 1 Package pocket folders • 1-2 Pencil sharpeners • 1 Pack of highlighters (4 pack) • 1-2 Kids scissors • 1-2 Packs of glue sticks (3 pack) • 1 Pencil box / soft case • 1 Pack of dry-erase markers (4 pack) • 1 Small spray bottle of dry-erase board cleaner • 1 Stapler (mini stapler preferred) • 1 Package of staples • 1 Roll of scotch tape with dispenser
