Volunteer Opportunities From: Brilliant Detroit

Juneteenth marks one of our country’s independence day celebrations. Although it has long been celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans. The historical legacy of Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of holding onto hope during uncertain times. It is a celebration of community, where families can gather to learn, reflect, and share stories that honor diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Volunteers at our Fitzgerald event will provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for community participants, help set-up program stations, and manage activities.

Join us for our annual block party as we celebrate community, strengthen neighbor-to-neighbor connections, and foster a spirit of mutual support!

Block parties and resource fairs play an important role in building safer, more connected, and more resilient neighborhoods by reducing social isolation, encouraging civic engagement, and creating opportunities for neighbors to support one another. Volunteers will assist with event setup, attendee check-in, vendor support, resource distribution and cleanup throughout the day while helping to create a welcoming and engaging experience for all Brilliant participants. Our Brilliant moms and dads are at the cornerstone of everything we do and our commitment to serving families. Join us for two memorable events at our Central hub, as we create a warm and welcoming brunch and a fun and joyful BBQ to celebrate the incredible mother and father figures in our Brilliant Central community. These special gatherings are designed to bring families together through meaningful connection, shared conversation, delicious food, and engaging activities.

We'd love to see you on one or both dates! 

Volunteers will play a key role in bringing these celebrations to life by decorating and assisting with setup, warmly greeting families, and supporting activities that foster connection, relaxation, and celebration.

As we get ready for our summer day camp, we’d love to welcome a volunteer group to help with an indoor and outdoor organization and beautification project. Volunteers will help organize totes and programming materials to ensure that they’re easily accessible for our hub staff, while also assisting with weeding garden beds, planting flowers, and refreshing our front and backyards for upcoming activities and events.

This effort will have a direct impact on our community engagement operations, creating a more organized space for staff and a more welcoming environment for our Brilliant participants. It’s also a great opportunity for a corporate group to come together for a meaningful morning or afternoon of service!

Brilliant Detroit's McDougall-Hunt location is partnering with Bailey Park NDC for a community resource event focused on empowering individuals with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to take charge of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. 'Know Your Health Day' aims to raise health awareness, promote early detection and prevention, and foster a culture of wellness, equipping participants to live healthier and more informed lives.

Volunteers will assist with event set-up, attendee and vendor registration, monitoring kids’ activity and mural stations, supporting the food tent, and helping with event breakdown. This event will be taking place from 1-5 p.m. at Bailey Park NDC. Volunteers interested in helping set-up should arrive at 11 a.m.
